LOOKING FOR 6 CADETS TO ASSIST WITH DIEPPE ANNIVERSARY

SITUATION

 

The 75th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid, a significant Second World War battle, will be commemorated by Canada in 2017.  Department of National Defence (DND) I Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) support to the Government of Canada (GC) programme will be provided domestically in Montreal and internationally in France. The CAF will be in support of the lead Government department, Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). The domestic event will take place 19 August 2017 in Montreal at the Parc de la Cité-du-Havre, supported by a military contingent. An additional event is being organized in Calgary with the King’s Own Calgary Regiment and Association.  The international programme in France will involve commemorations at Puys (18 August), at Dieppe (19 August) and at Pourville (20 August). Any of the ceremonies may include attendance by The Royal Family, the Governor General, the President of France, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Minister of National Defence, the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS).

 

MISSION

 

The Natl CJCR Sp Gp will provide up to ten (10) Cadets to support the event in Calgary, as per the attached scenario and Refs.

 

EXECUTION

 

Tasks:

 

RCSU(NW):

a.      Coordinate the participation of Cadets to support the event in Calgary; and

b.      Provide the escorting officer’s name and contact information to the VAC OPI prior to the event;

 

Coordination Instructions

a.      Event is on 19 August 17 starting at 0945hrs, at The Military Museums, located at 4520 Crowchild Trail SW, Calgary, AB;

b.      Cadets are to be on site by 0900hrs and meet the VAC OPI to be assigned their tasks;

c.      Cadets expected tasks are broken down as follows:

(1)    hand out programs,

(2)    escort the wreath laying (single wreath event), and

(3)    usher for a ceremony and reception;

d.      The attendance of one or more local CIC officers to assist with the supervision and management of these Cadets is also required;

e.      Please note that Capt Mo from the RCACC 2512 KOCR has been contacted by VAC’s KOCR partners.  If any from this corps can attend, they will have a slightly different role (assisting VIP Veterans, wreath escort etc.);

f.       Refreshments and some light hospitality will be provided to Cadets in a separate boardroom apart from the reception;

g.      Tours of the Military Museums for the cadets would also be arranged as a learning opportunity;

h.      Dress is C1 for Cadets and 1A for military personnel – arrangements will be made (air conditioned inside, tent outside) depending on the weather forecast; and
