Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta SPIRIT of Victory Contest

Good day,

Please find attached information on the Lieutenant-Governor's SPIRIT of Victory Effective Speaking Contest. This contest celebrates the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe, also known as V-E Day. The Lt. Gov. has always been a strong supporter and advocate of the cadet programme and as such, Her Honour created a special category just for Cadets. This contest is open to all cadets in the Province of Alberta but would be of special interest to those Cadets who have visited the battlefields of Europe.

For those wishing to participate in the contest, I recommend that the video be filmed in front of your Corps in uniform and without wearing headdress. No special equipment is required to record the speeches as most modern cell phones are able to produce high quality video. Of course, this contest is completely optional but it is a great opportunity to showcase the skills that are learned and practiced through the programme not to mention the cash prizes for the winners! As the current Lt. Gov. term is winding down this year, it would be great to see a large number of cadet participants to show our appreciation for Her Honour's support over the years.

If you are interested in submitting a video, please send an email to 2137rcacc@gmail.com, so we know who's going to submit one and then you can follow the guidelines as listed below.

Also, some additional information came out from the Lieutenant Governor's office yesterday regarding this contest:
Dear Cadets:

Last month, Lieutenant Governor Lois Mitchell shared details of the new SPIRIT of Victory speech contest for Cadets in Alberta. The contest marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe and is an opportunity for young Albertans to learn about this milestone in our history. We’re pleased to announce that we now have an early bird prize in addition to the grand prizes, which include a first prize of $1,000, a second prize of $500 and a third prize of $250.

All contest submissions received by March 15th will be eligible for the early bird draw for $100 Indigo gift cards. Cadets can find all the details at https://www.historyandheroes.ca/spirit-of-victory.  The final deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 8.

The Lieutenant Governor is looking forward to seeing the speeches and wishes everyone the best of luck with the contest!
